A client is seeking an experiencedCyber Security Engineer (F5 Specialist)to lead and deliver a major F5 hardware refresh and security uplift program within a high-security Federal Government environment.
This role suits a senior engineer with deep F5 expertise, robust security fundamentals, and the ability to operate confidently in mission‐critical data centre environments.
Onsite presence in Canberra is required during hardware swap windows, implementation activities, physical inspection, troubleshooting, and urgent operational support.
Preference will be given to candidatesbased in, or able to maintain close proximity to Canberrato ensure rapid response capability and minimise operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and executeF5 hardware refresh initiatives, including EOL replacement, capacity uplift, platform migration, and cutover planning.
Deliver seamless transitions tocurrent‐generation F5 platforms, ensuring continuity, resilience, and compliance.
Administer and optimiseF5 BIG-IP modules, including:
LTM(Local Traffic Manager)
AFM(Advanced Firewall Manager)
Develop, maintain, and troubleshootadvanced F5 iRulesfor traffic steering, security enforcement, and application logic.
Analyse and upliftweb application architectures, ensuring secure, performant, and standards‐aligned deployments.
Apply deep knowledge ofTCP/IP, HTTP, SSL/TLS, and associated troubleshooting methodologies across hybrid environments.
TranslateCVE announcementsinto real‐world operational impact, risk assessments, and remediation actions.
Implement hardening and security controls aligned to government standards and best practice.
Build and extendAPI automation and Infrastructure-as-Codecapabilities to support repeatable, scalable deployments.
Integrate F5 platforms into complex networking environments, includingCisco ACI with Policy-Based Redirect (PBR).
Support physical hardware swap activities, onsite troubleshooting, recovery operations, and operational readiness testing.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience deliveringF5 hardware refresh, migration, and uplift programsin enterprise or government environments.
Strong hands‐on capability withF5 LTM, AFM, iRules, and associated traffic/security functions.
Deep understanding ofweb application protocols, SSL/TLS, and secure traffic flows.
Demonstrated experience insecurity hardening, vulnerability interpretation, and CVE impact analysis.
Proficient scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar) for automation and IaC.
Experience integrating F5 intoCisco ACIand broader hybrid networking ecosystems.
Ability to operate in secure data centre environments and respond rapidly to operational events.
Australian citizenship required; NV1 clearance highly desirable.
