Waste Water Services

Western Australia

Waste Water Services is a specialist industrial water and wastewater treatment contractor with more than 24 years' experience supporting mining and resources operations across the Pilbara and wider Western Australia. We design, build, install, commission, refurbish, operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment assets - from packaged sewage treatment plants for remote accommodation villages through to process water systems, pumpsets, dosing systems, potable water treatment and plant upgrades. WWS holds ISO ****, ISO ***** and ISO ***** certification and, together with sister company Hiclear Australia (modular fixed-film treatment systems and civil water infrastructure), forms part of Vysarn Limited's water services group.
Position purpose
The Electrical & Control Systems Engineer owns the electrical, instrumentation and control scope across the full WWS project lifecycle from tender support, detailed design, procurement, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning and handover for packaged and site-built water and wastewater treatment plants. The role turns process designs into protected, compliant, reliable and maintainable electrical and automation systems suited to remote, harsh-environment mining sites and backs the service and operations teams in keeping installed assets running.
Key responsibilities
Prepare and check electrical design deliverables: single line diagrams, load calculations, cable schedules and sizing, protection and discrimination, earthing and lightning protection, lighting and small power, and switchboard/MCC specifications.
Develop instrument selections, datasheets, instrument indexes and IO lists; contribute to P&IDs; and functional design documentation.
Provide hazardous area input and select compliant equipment (AS/NZS ***** series) where classified areas apply.
Review vendor and subcontractor deliverables (switchboard builders, packaged equipment suppliers, electrical subcontractors) for technical and standards compliance.
Develop control philosophies and functional descriptions in collaboration with process and mechanical engineers.
Program, test and document PLC code and configure HMI/SCADA systems (e.g. Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider).
Configure telemetry, radio/cellular communications and remote monitoring for unmanned and remotely operated plants.

Integrate and commission field instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, analytical), including loop checks, scaling and calibration records.
Support estimating and tenders with electrical and controls scoping, vendor pricing and technical proposal input.
Conduct factory acceptance tests at fabrication facilities and lead site acceptance testing and commissioning at client sites, including travel to remote Pilbara operations.
Support construction teams and electrical subcontractors with technical queries, inspections and ITP verification.
Produce commissioning plans, test records, O&M; manual content and as-built documentation to project and client requirements.
Service & operations support
Provide troubleshooting and technical support to service technicians and plant operators on installed control systems, instrumentation and electrical equipment.
Contribute to maintenance and overhaul strategies for electrical and control assets across the installed base.
HSEQ & compliance
Design and work in accordance with AS/NZS ****, AS/NZS ****, AS/NZS *****, client specifications and WA WHS legislation.
Work within the WWS Integrated Management System (ISO ****, ISO *****, ISO *****); participate in design reviews, risk assessments and HAZOP/CHAZOP studies.
Champion electrical safety across the office, workshop and client sites; stop work where safety is compromised and report hazards, incidents and near misses.
Selection criteria
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical, Electrical & Electronic, Mechatronics or similar).
Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical and control systems engineering in an industrial environment.
Demonstrated PLC programming and HMI/SCADA configuration and commissioning experience.
Working knowledge of Australian standards, including AS/NZS **** and AS/NZS *****.
Strong documentation skills including functional descriptions, test records, technical reports and handover documentation.

Current WA driver's licence; ability to pass a pre-employment medical (including drug and alcohol screening) and client site inductions.
Full and valid working rights in Australia.
Water/wastewater treatment or mining and resources sector experience.
Familiarity with Tier 1 mining client electrical and automation specifications.
EEHA / hazardous area competency.
Functional safety exposure (IEC ***** / IEC *****).
Chartered status (CPEng / NER) or demonstrated progression toward it.
WA electrical worker's licence.
Telemetry, industrial networking or radio communications experience.
Safety-first mindset with sound electrical safety judgement in design and on site.
Rigorous, self-checking approach to design and documentation — right first time.
Practical, hands-on troubleshooter who is comfortable in the workshop and on live plants.
Able to run electrical scope across multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities.
Clear communicator with clients, subcontractors, trades and internal teams.
Willing and able to complete site-based stints away from home, sometimes at short notice.
Key relationships
Internal:
Design Manager, Technical Director, project managers, drafting team, Construction Manager and site crews, service and operations teams, estimating.
External:

Quality and completeness of test records, O&M; content and as-built documentation.
Responsiveness and effectiveness of support to construction, service and operations teams.
Base salary of $155,000 plus superannuation, commensurate with experience.
