Security Manager – Events & Operations

Level 8 – starting at $132,445 plus 17 % superannuation.

Overview
The Security Manager – Events & Operations leads the operational delivery of concierge services, event security, ad‐hoc guarding and traffic management across UNSW's Kensington and Sydney metro campuses. You translate strategic direction into operational reality, ensuring services are well‐planned, risk‐based and consistently high performing.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop the Events & Operations security portfolio, including concierge services, event security, ad‐hoc guarding and traffic management, ensuring high‐quality, consistent and risk‐aware service delivery across UNSW's Kensington and Sydney metro campuses.
Plan, coordinate and lead security operations for major campus events such as Open Day, graduations, VIP visits, demonstrations and other high‐profile activities, ensuring operational plans are risk‐based, scalable and aligned with Protective Services frameworks.
Provide expert operational advice on event security planning, risk mitigation, traffic flow and campus activity impacts, working closely with ARC, Venue & Events, residential communities and other internal stakeholders.
Develop, implement and maintain operational procedures and standards for concierge services, event security and ad‐hoc guarding, ensuring alignment with UNSW policies, governance frameworks and compliance requirements.
Oversee contractor performance for event‐related and ad‐hoc guarding services, including workforce planning, resourcing, service quality and value‐for‐money outcomes.
Manage operational budgets for event security, satellite site services and ad‐hoc guarding,



including forecasting, expenditure control and identification of efficiencies.
Build strong partnerships across Protective Services, collaborating closely with the Security Manager – Incident Management and supporting incident response during periods of absence or elevated activity.
Drive continuous improvement across event and operational security services, identifying opportunities to uplift capability, optimise service delivery and enhance integration with core security operations.
Participate in the after‐hours on‐call roster, providing operational leadership for medium to high‐risk events and ensuring appropriate escalation and coordination when required.
Promote a strong culture of safety, wellbeing, ethical conduct and risk management, ensuring psychosocial and physical hazards are identified and controlled.
Qualifications
A relevant tertiary qualification and 3+ years' experience managing security operations, event security or operational service delivery within a large, complex organisation.
Current NSW Security Licence (1A/2A) and demonstrated capability leading small teams and delivering high‐quality operational outcomes across diverse campus activities.
Experience planning and delivering security operations for events, including risk‐based operational planning, stakeholder coordination and on‐the‐ground leadership during medium to high‐risk activities.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills,



with proven ability to work collaboratively with internal partners and external agencies such as NSW Police.
Experience overseeing contractor performance, ad‐hoc guarding services, workforce planning and operational budgets for event‐related services.
Robust governance, risk and compliance capability, including developing or applying operational procedures, assurance processes and CPTED/Safer by Design principles.
Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail and the ability to remain calm, organised and effective in fast‐paced or high‐pressure environments.
