The opportunity
We are seeking an Electrical Distribution Design Engineer to join a Perth-based team delivering electrical infrastructure for land development and other projects across Western Australia.
The position will focus on the planning and design of distribution networks connecting to the Western Power grid.
Projects will include electrical infrastructure for greenfield developments, network connections and upgrades to existing sites, with some potential exposure to communications and road-lighting design.
This is an engineering design and project management role rather than a design-drafting position.
You will help manage projects from initial planning through to design, documentation and approval while working closely with clients, Western Power and other project stakeholders.
The chance could suit a qualified engineer relatively early in their career who has gained some exposure to Western Power distribution design, or a more experienced engineer ready to take greater ownership of projects and client relationships.
Your responsibilities will include:
Engineering planning and design for electrical distribution networks
Developing solutions for projects connecting to the Western Power grid
Designing electrical infrastructure for greenfield land developments
Planning upgrades and modifications to existing electrical infrastructure




Managing designs from initial planning through to documentation and approval
Reviewing drawings, calculations and technical documentation
Undertaking design and documentation quality assurance
Managing design processes, project programs and deliverables
Coordinating internal and external design resources
Liaising with clients, Western Power, authorities and other stakeholders
Resolving technical and project-delivery issues
Contributing to the improvement of engineering and design processes
Supporting communications and road-lighting design where required
About you
A university qualification in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
More importantly, you will have some practical experience in Western Power distribution design or the design of electrical distribution networks that connect to the Western Power grid.
You will ideally bring:
Relevant industry experience
Experience with Western Power distribution design, standards and requirements
Familiarity with relevant distribution design software and tools
Knowledge of Western Power land-development policies and procedures
The ability to review and quality-check designs and technical documentation
Confidence in client and stakeholder discussions
Strong organisation and project-management capabilities
Good written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative and positive approach
A genuine interest in developing your technical, project and client-management skills
Strong people skills and an enjoyment of working as part of a capable team
Experience with communications infrastructure or road-lighting design, including familiarity with AS/NZS ****, would be advantageous but is not essential.
