Western Australia

At Common Ground Trails, we design, construct and maintain incredible hiking and mountain biking trails, bike parks, pump tracks, and outdoor recreation facilities across Australia. Our projects inspire people to get outdoors, be active, and connect with nature.
Our team of experienced, skilled, and talented landscape architects, urban designers, trail builders, and other professionals collaborate to deliver exceptional outcomes. Renowned for the quality of our work, we self‐execute the majority of our projects and services in-house. We're passionate about what we do and proud to create places that communities use and enjoy for years to come.
We are a hardworking, supportive, and down‐to‐earth team that genuinely enjoys the work we do. At the end of each project, we get to stand back and see what we've built – and ride it too.
The Position:
We are currently looking for an experienced Estimator (or someone with strong commercial and cost‐estimating capability from a related field) to join our team on a permanent, full‐time basis, based in our Margaret River office.
Reporting to the Pre‐Contracts Manager, this role plays a key part in preparing winning bids and securing future design and construction projects, minor works, and maintenance opportunities. You won't just be pricing projects – you'll be influencing design and strategy, broadening qualified relationships, and meaningfully contributing to exciting new community projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpreting technical drawings, reports, guidelines, and specifications
Preparing accurate quantity take‐offs using Mudshark and Excel
Preparing detailed and competitive cost estimates and budgets in line with company targets
Assisting with tender submissions and building compelling bid strategy
Collaborating with design teams, clients, and construction teams to ensure scope alignment

Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to source quality products and services at competitive rates
Collating and analysing data to identify and review productivity and material utilisation metrics
Scheduling and managing multiple cost estimates concurrently to meet strict deadlines and priorities
Upon winning a new contract, assisting in preparing a detailed handover to the Operations Team
About You:
We know the perfect blend of skills for this role is rare, so we're looking at experience on a sliding scale. At its heart, this role needs someone with proven ability to accurately price and cost construction work, but we're just as interested in your passion for the outdoors. The stronger you are in one area, the more flexible we can be on the other.
What You'll Need (The Essentials):
Demonstrated commercial cost‐estimating capability – the proven ability to interpret scope, prepare quantity take‐offs, and produce accurate, competitive estimates (this might come from a dedicated estimating role, or from a related field where costing and pricing was central)
A solid understanding of construction techniques and market conditions
A commercial, numerate mindset, with an eye for efficiencies and value‐management opportunities
High‐level written and verbal communication, with the ability to work effectively with team members, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
A genuine interest in the outdoors and the recreation space
What Will Make You Stand Out:
Experience in civil, landscape,

or commercial construction estimating
Hands‐on or professional experience in the trails or outdoor recreation industry – whether building, designing, managing, or maintaining walking trails, mountain bike trails, pump tracks, bike parks, or BMX facilities
A tertiary or technical qualification (though strong practical experience is equally valued)
Proficiency with software such as Mudshark, Bluebeam, and Adobe InDesign
Not sure if you tick every box?
If you've got serious estimating chops but are new to trails – or you're deep in the trails world with real commercial and costing experience – we'd genuinely love to hear from you. Tell us where you sit on the scale.
What We Offer:
A great location:
Based in beautiful Margaret River, with trails right on the doorstep
A meaningful role:
An opportunity to join a progressive, growing business in a developing and evolving industry where your contribution will have a meaningful and positive impact on the world
A great team:
A hardworking, fun working culture and team where we do a great job because we enjoy where we work and the legends we work with
Exciting projects:
Clients and projects that will energise you. We push the boundaries to design and construct creative mountain bike trails, pump tracks, bike parks, and facilities across Australia
Career development:
Opportunities to grow with a progressive and expanding company
Competitive remuneration:
A great salarycommensurate with experience and demonstrated abilities
