The Opportunity
OCRT is seeking a Technical Writer to support Army in reviewing and updating current doctrine across a program of Land Warfare Procedures spanning armoured and combat engineering capability areas. This is a hands-on authoring role for someone who combines robust technical writing with genuine subject-matter grounding in armoured or combat engineering doctrine.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed reviews and updates of specified Land Warfare Procedures, ensuring alignment with current Army doctrine and capability requirements
Manage a prioritised program of doctrine deliverables from initial review through to final, Defence-accepted product
Identify and flag additional doctrine, procedure or policy gaps arising from the review process
Collaborate with Defence stakeholders and subject matter experts to validate content, incorporate review comments, and resolve queries
Maintain accurate records,
working papers and version control across all doctrine products
Participate in governance, milestone review and assurance activities as required
Deliver a comprehensive handover and knowledge transfer at completion of the engagement
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated experience authoring, reviewing or updating military doctrine, policy or technical procedures, ideally within an armoured, combat engineering or land combat context
Strong understanding of Army doctrine development processes and standards
Excellent technical writing skills with high attention to accuracy, structure and clarity
Ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables against a fixed schedule
Experience engaging Defence subject matter experts and stakeholders to validate technical content
Background in Armour, Royal Australian Engineers, or related corps highly regarded
Essential requirements
Active NV1 clearance (minimum) | Canberra-based, with attendance at Russell as required
