Associate Professor, Rural and Remote Health
Fixed Term – 5 Years | Full-Time
Academic Level: D | $169,706 – $186,706 p.a.
Location: Any SA Rural and Remote Health Campus
About the Role
This senior academic leadership opportunity supports the development of a nationally and internationally recognised rural and remote health research programme. As Associate Professor, you will provide strategic research leadership across Flinders University's Rural and Remote Health network, driving impactful research that addresses regional, rural and remote health priorities. You will work collaboratively with academic, government, industry and community partners, build research capacity, secure competitive funding, mentor emerging researchers and contribute to improving health outcomes for rural communities.
The position offers flexibility to be based at any of Flinders University's Rural and Remote Health South Australia campuses.
Responsibilities
Lead and deliver a high‐impact research programme focused on regional, rural and remote health, producing internationally recognised research outcomes and publications.
Drive research growth through the attraction of competitive external funding, particularly NHMRC and MRFF grants, and the development of strategic research priorities.
Build and strengthen collaborations with national and international research partners, government, industry and community stakeholders to enhance research impact and reputation.
Mentor and develop higher degree research students, early and mid‐career researchers, fostering a culture of research excellence, innovation and collaboration.
About You
You are a recognised research leader with a strong track record of delivering impactful, high-quality research in rural and remote health. Passionate about improving health outcomes for regional communities, you bring the ability to secure competitive funding, foster meaningful collaborations and mentor the next generation of researchers.



You thrive in a collaborative workplace and are committed to driving research excellence, innovation and real‐world impact.
Hold a PhD (or equivalent research experience) and have an established national or international reputation for research excellence in rural and remote health, demonstrated through high-quality publications and competitive research funding success.
Proven ability to lead and grow impactful research programmes, with experience securing external grant funding and developing strategic research initiatives and partnerships.
Accomplished mentor and supervisor with a demonstrated commitment to supporting higher degree research students and developing early and mid‐career researchers.
Excel at building collaborative relationships across academia, industry, government and community sectors, bringing strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and research management capabilities.
Prescribed Conditions for Employment
Must obtain a current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check satisfactory to the University before commencing. A criminal record will not automatically disqualify a candidate; each case will be assessed on its merits.
Must maintain a current Working with Children Check satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act **** (SA).
