The Catholic Archdiocese of Perth has 106 Parishes and 15 Agencies within its boundaries.
Each parish is led by a priest appointed by the Archbishop of Perth.
Agencies are managed by a Director/Coordinator and deliver a wide variety of ministries, including faith enrichment and formation, liturgy, disability support, Aboriginal outreach, marriage and family education services, homelessness support, justice and ecology education programs, and migrant and refugee services.
About the Role
The Catholic Archdiocese of Perth is seeking an experienced and motivatedLead, Governance, Legal and Riskto join its Governance, Legal and Risk team.
Reporting to the Chief, Governance, Legal and Risk, this role provides legal, governance and risk support across a broad range of matters impacting the Archdiocesen agencies, offices, organisations, parishes and clergy.
The position offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple sectors, providing legal guidance, governance support and assistance with commercial transactions, including property and compliance matters.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing legal support across a range of civil, criminal, industrial and commercial matters
Assisting with conciliations, mediations and related proceedings
Drafting and coordinating legal documents, including contracts, leases and commercial agreements
Managing relationships with external legal service providers, counsel and property advisors
Supporting governance initiatives, policy development and organisational improvements
Assisting with health and safety, risk and compliance obligations
Supporting property acquisition and disposal settlements
Preparing reports, submissions, briefing papers and related documentation for senior stakeholders
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong legal expertise,
excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across a complex and diverse organisation.
Bachelor of Laws or a related qualification
Demonstrated experience managing complex legal matters across civil and/or criminal practice areas
Experience in litigation management, including data processes and discovery; preparation of briefs to counsel
Strong understanding of the Western Australian legal workplace
Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously
A collaborative and service-oriented approach to stakeholder engagement
A willingness and capacity to support the Catholic ethos
Demonstrate and manage ethical behaviour in accordance with relevant standards, values and policies.
Highly regarded:
Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Western Australia
Minimum 2 years post-admission experience (PAE)
Experience in commercial matters including property
Experience supporting governance, compliance and organisational improvement initiatives
Successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain a National Police Clearance, a valid Western Australian Driver's Licence, proof of right to work in Australia and willingness to support the Catholic ethos.
