About the role
The AHP3 Occupational Therapist (Hand Therapy) provides advanced hand therapy services and clinical leadership within WCHN.
The role involves supervising staff, supporting clinical education, and contributing to service improvement and protocol development, working alongside the existing Surgical Services AHP3 Hand Therapy / Burns senior.




The incumbent also manages complex clinical cases and represents the Hand Therapy service in multidisciplinary teams.
Key duties of the role
Provide specialised paediatric hand therapy services and lead clinical quality, service improvement, and person- and family-centred care within the Hand Therapy service.
Provide clinical leadership for Hand Therapy services, ensuring best practice, quality improvement, case prioritisation, and ongoing service development.
Ensuring Occupational Therapy is adaptable to the introduction of knowledge and leads the hand therapy team in developing its inventory of skills in the clinical area of hand therapy
Effective supervision and instruction of AHP2, AHP1 and Allied Health Assistant staff in relation to clinical research, skill development and quality improvements
Developing and participating in clinical research and development activities with WCHN Hand Therapists.
Skills and Experience
Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Australia Board of Australia
Demonstrated advanced clinical experience in paediatric Hand Therapy, including assessment, treatment, splinting, and scar management
Experience working in an acute hospital setting with children, adolescents, and families
Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and service development experience within a multidisciplinary team setting
Strong knowledge of paediatric upper limb development, clinical practice standards, and quality improvement principles
