We're seeking a
Senior Metallurgist
to join a global manufacturing business supporting major rail and infrastructure projects across the Asia Pacific region. This is a unique opportunity to influence product performance, drive innovation and provide technical expertise across multiple manufacturing sites.
The Opportunity
As the Senior Metallurgist, you'll be the technical authority for metallurgical engineering across the APAC business. You'll work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality and customers to improve products, solve complex technical challenges and lead research initiatives that shape the future of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership role offering a mix of laboratory management, customer interaction, failure analysis and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide metallurgical leadership across manufacturing operations throughout APAC.
Lead root cause investigations into product failures and customer technical issues.
Drive research and development projects focused on new materials, manufacturing processes and product improvements.
Oversee laboratory operations, testing equipment and metallurgical analysis.
Develop and improve melting, heat treatment and production processes.
Prepare technical reports and present findings to customers and internal stakeholders.
Work closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support customer audits,



product acceptance testing and technical enquiries.
Mentor and develop laboratory personnel while fostering technical capability across the wider business.
Travel to manufacturing sites across Australia and the APAC region as required.
About You
We're looking for someone who brings both solid technical expertise and the ability to influence across multiple stakeholders.
You'll ideally have:
Degree qualifications in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline.
Significant experience within heavy manufacturing, foundry, steel, rail or industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, material characterisation and failure analysis.
Experience conducting root cause investigations and preparing technical reports.
Exposure to laboratory management and metallurgical testing techniques.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers and internal teams.
A continuous improvement mindset and passion for solving complex engineering problems.
