About MIP
MIP is an established Australian data and analytics consultancy. We help organisations achieve better outcomes from their data through analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, automation, cloud platforms and artificial intelligence.
Our consultants work across a broad range of industries and technologies, including Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, AWS and Azure.
We are looking for an Associate Consultant with at least one year of relevant commercial experience and foundational capabilities across data engineering, analytics and data visualisation.
About the role
As an Associate Consultant, you will work alongside experienced MIP consultants to design, develop and deliver data and analytics solutions for our clients.
The role will involve a combination of data engineering, data preparation, analysis, reporting and visualisation. You will help develop reliable data pipelines, data models, dashboards and analytical solutions that address real business needs.
You will also work directly with clients to understand requirements, communicate progress and translate business problems into practical and sustainable solutions.
This role is suited to an early-career consultant who wants to broaden their technical capabilities while developing strong client‐facing and consulting skills.
Key responsibilities
Working with clients and senior consultants to understand business, reporting and data requirements.
Extracting, cleansing, transforming and integrating data from multiple systems and sources.
Developing and maintaining ETL or ELT data pipelines.
Writing and optimising SQL queries.
Supporting the development of cloud-based data platforms and data warehouse solutions.
Developing data models that support reporting, analytics and business decision-making.
Building dashboards,
reports and data visualisations using Power BI, Tableau or similar tools.
Automating repeatable data preparation, validation and reporting processes.
Performing data quality checks, reconciliation and testing.
Troubleshooting data issues and identifying their underlying causes.
Documenting requirements, data sources, transformation logic, technical processes and delivered solutions.
Participating in client meetings, workshops, demonstrations and project updates.
Communicating progress, risks, issues and dependencies clearly to project leads and stakeholders.
Supporting solution deployment, user acceptance testing, training and handover.
Contributing to internal knowledge‐sharing, innovation and continuous‐improvement activities.
About you
You enjoy solving problems, working with data and learning new technologies. You are comfortable taking ownership of assigned tasks while collaborating with clients and more experienced consultants.
You will have:
At least one year of relevant commercial experience in consulting, data engineering, data analytics, business intelligence or a related technology role.
Practical experience preparing, transforming and integrating data from multiple sources.
Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
Experience developing or supporting ETL or ELT data pipelines.
An understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and data quality principles.
Experience with at least one analytics or visualisation platform, such as Power BI or Tableau.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to explain technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
The ability to manage priorities and work effectively as part of a project team.
A willingness to ask questions, seek feedback and take ownership of your career development.
Australian working rights.
Desirable experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake or Databricks.
Microsoft Azure or AWS data services.
Python or another data-focused programming language.
Alteryx or similar data automation tools.
Data orchestration and pipeline technologies.
APIs, JSON, flat files and other data integration methods.
Git or another source-control platform.
Dimensional modelling and data warehouse design.
Cloud-based analytics and modern data platform projects.
Consulting or client-facing project delivery.
Candidates are not expected to have experience across every technology. We are looking for strong foundations, relevant commercial experience and the ability to learn quickly.
