Hospital Medical Officer – Surgery HMO
Role Overview
Provide high‐quality person‐centred care within surgical clinical units, work collaboratively with multi‐disciplinary teams, and demonstrate a commitment to evidence‐based practice, ongoing learning, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver person‐centred care to all patients.
Work closely with nurses, allied health and senior clinicians as part of a multi‐disciplinary team.
Use evidence‐based practice and current literature to conduct assessments and formulate management decisions.
Communicate clearly with patients, respecting cultural, religious and gender differences.
Recognise ethical complexity in medical practice and follow skilled and ethical codes.
Provide comprehensive handover information, especially for very sick patients.
Maintain punctuality and manage daily workload through effective prioritisation.
Rotation Opportunities
General Surgery
ENT, Cardiothoracics, Plastics, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Emergency and ICU
Secondment and regional hospital rotations (Werribee Mercy, Swan Hill District Hospital, Warrnambool Base Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, RMH)
Qualifications & Requirements
MBBS or equivalent.
Provisional or general AHPRA registration.




Current national criminal history check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain one.
Full working rights within Australia.
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn, develop skills and undertake early career rotations.
Appointment Details
Duration: 01 February ********* February **** (extended contracts may be considered)
Classifications: HM12 – HM20 (pro rata for part‐time) – salary range $90,****** – $158,******.
