Experienced Cropping Assistant Manager - Serpentine, Victoria
Opportunity to work across both cropping, workshop and trucking enterprises.
Operate modern, GPS‐guided machinery and innovative technology.
Join a stable, family‐owned business with long‐term, loyal staff.
The Employer:
Established in ****, Willera Merinos is a proud fifth‐generation family business built on innovation, quality and a commitment to ethical animal production. Operating across a significant regional footprint, the family enterprise manages a highly productive 4,000‐hectare aggregation at the Serpentine property, supported by a dedicated team of seven permanent staff. The business is strategically structured as a balanced mixed farming operation, comprising 60% sheep, featuring a renowned Merino stud and a large commercial operation of 13,000 ewes, and 40% cropping.
The cropping program encompasses approximately 2,200 hectares annually, producing a diverse mix of canola, vetch, wheat, barley, oaten hay, milling oats and high‐quality lucerne or clover/rye grass pastures. The property features advanced agricultural infrastructure, including four large irrigation bores and two lateral irrigators, ensuring production stability. Willera Merinos takes great pride in being a progressive, caring employer that fosters a rewarding work environment, prioritises the well‐being of its people and invests heavily in maintaining premium facilities and machinery.
This diverse role offers an exceptional range of responsibilities across a major mixed farming operation. The successful applicant will primarily focus on executing the annual broadacre cropping program, taking charge of key seasonal tasks including precision seeding, spraying and top dressing. Beyond field operations, this position plays a critical role in workshop management, requiring mechanical maintenance of the farm fleet and executing grain deliveries during harvest. Formal qualifications are looked upon favourably.

Modern agriculture relies on data‐driven decision‐making, and this role requires an individual who is comfortable integrating digital technology into their daily workflow. You will utilise advanced platforms such as AgriWebb and the John Deere Operations Centre to support accurate tracking and farm efficiency. While cropping and mechanical tasks constitute the primary focus, you will also work collaboratively with the team to assist with infrastructure repairs, fencing, water maintenance and occasional livestock handling as required.
The Offer:
Your prospective employer is committed to providing a comfortable and sustainable work environment. Successful applicants will be provided with a 4‐bedroom, newly renovated home with amenities included. To ensure you have the tools to succeed, you will also be supplied with a work vehicle and fuel allowance.
The property is strategically located, offering the benefits of rural life without isolation, and is close to the town of Serpentine and the city of Bendigo, only 45 minutes south, ensuring easy access to local amenities, schools, healthcare and community services.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are searching for a hardworking, mechanically minded individual who possesses a great work ethic, a collaborative spirit and a genuine passion for modern agriculture.
Proven experience operating & maintaining modern, GPS‐guided broadacre tractors & cropping implements.
Strong technical proficiency in broadacre spraying, sowing and general cropping operations.
Trade qualifications as a mechanic or a highly advanced mechanical aptitude for vehicle maintenance and workshop repairs.
A valid Chemical Users Certificate or the willingness to obtain one.
A current car driver's licence is essential; a Heavy Combination (HC) or Multi‐Combination (MC) truck licence is highly regarded.
Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Practical skills in general farm infrastructure maintenance, including fencing, water systems & welding.
