TOM People and I are partnering with a high-growth Australian organisation to appoint a
Financial Controller
. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will take ownership of the organisation's financial accounting, reporting, payroll, compliance, audit and transactional finance functions. You will be responsible for ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting and best-practice governance across the business. This position is ideally suited to a 'hands on' technically strong finance leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, driving process improvements and operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Role responsibilities
Lead, mentor and develop the finance team across financial accounting, payroll, AP and AR functions.
Oversee month-end and year-end close, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.




Manage statutory reporting requirements, audit processes and external stakeholder relationships.
Maintain strong balance sheet governance, reconciliations and financial controls.
Oversee payroll operations and compliance, including STP, superannuation, payroll tax and related obligations.
Manage BAS, FBT and other statutory compliance requirements.
Oversee banking, payments, cash management and finance operations.
Drive continuous improvement across finance processes, systems and controls.
Support the CFO with executive reporting, strategic initiatives and operational finance leadership.
About you
CA or CPA qualified with tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar financial accounting leadership role.
Solid technical accounting and statutory reporting expertise.
Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance teams.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate effectively across all levels of an organisation.
Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, property or project-based environments will be highly regarded.
