Kotahi is partnered with a highly regarded civil construction contractor with a long-standing reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects across Queensland's transport, energy and resources sector. With a strong project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Specialist to join their high-performing delivery team.
Working alongside Project Managers and Senior Operations Management, you'll provide commercial leadership and support across multiple projects, helping drive strong contractual outcomes, commercial governance and financial performance.
The Opportunity
This role offers genuine variety and exposure across the full project lifecycle. You'll become a trusted commercial partner to operational teams, providing advice and support on financial performance, contract administration, subcontract management and project reporting. The position could perhaps be described as a Junior Commercial Manager and offers genuine progression within the business.
Key responsibilities include:
Working closely with Project Managers to monitor project budgets, cash flow, forecasting and cost performance while providing commercial guidance and support to project delivery teams throughout project execution.
Supporting the preparation of monthly commercial reports and financial reporting for senior management.
Identifying commercial risks and opportunities while ensuring contractual compliance.
Preparing, negotiating and administering subcontract agreements.
Managing monthly subcontractor progress claims, assessments and payment certifications and negotiating variations,



claims and commercial outcomes.
Supporting the preparation, assessment and negotiation of head contract variations and contractual claims and assisting Project Managers with monthly head contract progress claims and invoicing.
About You
Ideally, you'll bring:
Experience as a Commercial Specialist, Contracts Administrator, Senior Cost Controller or Project Controls Specialist within the civil construction industry.
Sound understanding of Australian construction contracts and commercial practices.
Exposure to head contract administration, claims and contractual correspondence.
Strong financial acumen with experience supporting project reporting and forecasting.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the confidence to engage with Project Managers, subcontractors and senior leadership.
A proactive approach with the ability to balance commercial outcomes and solid stakeholder relationships.
Experience negotiating subcontract agreements, progress claims, variations and commercial settlements.
