Mount Isa Mines are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Laboratory Assistant to join our Metallurgical Operations Technical Services team.
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor through the Leading Hand, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality sample preparation and laboratory analysis to support operational and metallurgical requirements.
Role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 4 day/ 4 night shift roster or options for Day shift only!

About The Role
This position is responsible for preparing and analysing a range of metallurgical samples while ensuring sample integrity, quality standards and laboratory QA/QC protocols are maintained.
Working within a fast-paced laboratory environment, you will contribute to the delivery of accurate and timely analytical results while supporting a strong safety culture.
Key responsibilities
Conduct sample preparation activities including sample collection, logging, drying, splitting and milling while maintaining sample integrity.
Perform laboratory analyses and deliver accurate analytical results in a timely manner.
Adhere to laboratory QA/QC procedures and quality standards.
Actively participate in Safe Start meetings and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Communicate laboratory workloads effectively during shift handovers.




Assist with training and supporting laboratory team members in laboratory procedures and protocols.
Support higher-level analytical work as required.
Maintain professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.

You enjoy working in a hands‐on environment and can manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
We are looking for
Experience in metallurgical sample preparation or the ability to learn quickly.
Experience working within a laboratory environment desirable or part of a team
Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel - basic level is great
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), or the ability to learn.
Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) principles – Safety Conscious
