We are seeking a commercially minded Financial Modeller to support the development and investment evaluation of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia.
Reporting to the Vice General Manager, you will play a critical role in assessing project viability, supporting investment decisions, and optimising project economics throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and enhance detailed financial models for utility-scale BESS projects from early-stage development through to financial close.
Build integrated project finance models incorporating revenue forecasts, capital expenditure, operating costs, financing structures, taxation, and project cash flows.
Evaluate project economics using metrics including IRR, NPV, DSCR, LCOE, payback period, and equity returns.
Perform scenario, sensitivity, and Monte Carlo analysis to assess key commercial and technical risks.
Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS)
Energy arbitrage
Capacity markets (where applicable)
Network support services
Wholesale electricity market participation
Assist with project acquisitions, due diligence, and valuation of renewable energy assets.
Support negotiations with lenders, investors, and strategic partners by preparing financial analyses and responding to commercial queries.
Monitor market trends including electricity prices, renewable energy policies, AEMO market developments, and financing conditions.
Continuously improve financial modelling methodologies, templates, and internal modelling standards.
Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce,



Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
3–8+ years' experience in financial modelling, project finance, investment analysis, infrastructure, renewable energy, or energy markets.
Advanced Microsoft Excel modelling skills with the ability to build complex financial models from first principles.
Robust understanding of project finance concepts, discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation, and infrastructure investments.
Experience analysing utility-scale renewable energy, BESS, solar, wind, transmission, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Australian electricity markets, including the National Electricity Market (NEM), is advantageous.
Familiarity with debt financing structures, equity returns, and infrastructure investment metrics.
Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience modelling utility-scale BESS or renewable energy projects.
Understanding of merchant electricity markets and revenue forecasting.
Exposure to project financing and financial close processes.
Knowledge of AEMO market mechanisms and ancillary service markets.
Experience with Python, VBA, Power BI, or other analytical tools is advantageous.
Previous experience within renewable energy developers, infrastructure funds, investment banks, advisory firms, IPPs, or project finance teams.
