Lead Optical Network Data Management Specialist | Optical Transport Networks & Data Centre InfrastructureLocation: Canberra (Onsite)Security Clearance: NV-2 Cleared (Mandatory)Contract Length: 12 Months + 2 x 12 Month Extensions (Based on the Department's sole discretion)About the Position:This isn't a traditional network operations role.It's about ensuring the resilience, performance and ongoing sustainment of enterprise optical network infrastructure that underpins critical ICT services.Working across secure data centre environments, you'll take ownership of the operation, engineering and optimisation of high-capacity optical transport networks, partnering with infrastructure teams, technical specialists and external providers to maintain resilient connectivity across complex environments.Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll contribute to network design, technical documentation and infrastructure improvements, ensuring optical platforms remain reliable, scalable and ready to support future demand.If you enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges, working hands-on with optical transport technologies and supporting environments where availability and reliability are non-negotiable, this is the kind of role where your expertise will have a lasting impact.What You'll Do:Engineer, support and optimise enterprise optical transport networks across secure data centre environments.Install, commission and maintain fibre optic infrastructure, structured cabling and associated network technologies.Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design artefacts,



operational procedures and implementation guidance.Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and telecommunications providers to deliver reliable, resilient infrastructure services.What We Are Looking For:Demonstrated experience engineering and supporting CIENA DWDM optical transport networks within enterprise or secure environments.Strong understanding of optical network architecture, provisioning, testing, optimisation and ongoing operational support.Experience working across data centre infrastructure, fibre connectivity, carrier services and end-to-end service commissioning.Solid stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across operational and project environments.Technology & Environment:CIENA Optical Transport Networks (DWDM & Data Centre Interconnect)Fibre Optic Infrastructure, Structured Cabling & Network EngineeringHigh-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD) & Operational DocumentationA Quick Note Before You ApplyThis role is unlikely to suit network engineers whose experience has primarily focused on routing, switching or general enterprise networking without hands-on ownership of optical transport infrastructure.Success in this role requires strong technical capability across CIENA optical networking, data centre operations and secure infrastructure environments, together with the ability to balance operational support, engineering and technical documentation.Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold an active NV2 Security Clearance.
