Profectus is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer / Systems Analyst (VMware) to support the delivery, administration, and sustainment of enterprise ICT infrastructure within a large Australian Government Agency. This is a hands‑on engineering role centred on virtualisation and infrastructure operations, administering and maintaining complex platforms across production and non-production environments while translating business needs into technical requirements.

You will work alongside infrastructure engineers, architects, and security teams in a structured and highly governed setting, contributing to systems that support significant government outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Administer and maintain enterprise ICT systems and infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across production and non-production environments
- Monitor, investigate, and resolve complex technical incidents, applying advanced troubleshooting to minimise disruption and maintain continuity of services
- Implement and manage system configurations, patches, and upgrades in line with organisational standards, security controls, and change management processes
- Develop and complete technical and security requirements, test planning and validation, operational readiness considerations, and performance and constraint analysis for infrastructure and cloud hosted solutions
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including technical procedures, configurations, and operational support guides
- Support the integration and continuous improvement of ICT systems,



working with stakeholders and technical teams to optimise functionality, performance, and user outcomes
- Contribute to systems capacity, performance monitoring, and optimisation through proactive tuning and resource management
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing to strengthen team capability and organisational maturity

Required Experience

- Minimum 3 years experience with the VMware SDDC stack, including vSphere and VMware vSAN and software-defined storage
- Strong understanding of virtualisation and cloud concepts, including virtual data centres, vMotion, and dynamic resource scheduling (DRS)
- Experience with enterprise data storage technologies including NAS (IP based), SAN (Fibre Channel based), and converged storage solutions such as vSAN
- Experience with the VMware Aria suite (formerly vRealize), including Aria Automation, Aria Operations, Aria Operations for Logs, and Aria Orchestrator
- Experience with Site Recovery Manager or equivalent disaster recovery orchestration tools
- Proven experience implementing complex business solutions hosted on infrastructure and cloud platforms, covering security, testing, operational readiness, and performance
- Experience with systems backup, recovery, high availability,



and disaster recovery, including replication, failover, and cyber resilience practices
- Experience with identity and access management, including central authentication technologies such as LDAP, Active Directory, and Entra ID
- Knowledge of network protocols and core infrastructure services, including DNS, SMTP, NTP, and SNMP
- Demonstrated understanding of ITIL service management practices, particularly incident, problem, and change management
- Experience with systems monitoring and observability tools, including SNMP, syslog, and modern logging platforms
- Exposure to cloud platforms and automation, including Microsoft Azure and AWS
- Scripting experience with Power Shell or Python, and infrastructure as code or automation tooling
- Experience administering a cross domain solution
- Experience supporting highly secure or classified government environments
- Formal ICT qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution, or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience

Security Clearance Requirements

- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Must have the ability to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance
