About the Opportunity
Glenelg Shire Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. (This is a full time position but part time applications will be considered).
Located in one of the finest regional areas of Victoria, this is an exciting opportunity to lead a developed statutory building team in the role of Building Surveyor on a permanent, full-time basis.
In this role you will be responsible for
- Implementation and enforcement of all relevant Building Act, Regulations and Codes in conjunction with the contract Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Providing for and promoting the delivery of building permit services to the Glenelg Shire community.
- Providing leadership and guidance to Council’s building team through best practice services.
In this role you will be responsible for
- Leading the delivery of building functions, ensuring the effective application of relevant Building Acts, Regulations and Codes.
- Delivering high-quality building permit services to Council, the community, developers and other stakeholders in a skilled, timely and customer-focused manner.
- Providing technical expertise and guidance to the Building Unit and the broader organisation to support efficient, practical and cost-effective building outcomes.
- Assessing building compliance matters,
identifying risks and providing recommendations to the Municipal Building Surveyor on appropriate enforcement actions.
- Promoting best practice in building services by providing technical leadership, mentoring team members and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

What you need to Succeed
- Registration as a Building Surveyor (Limited) with the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC).
- Experience in building surveying, compliance and enforcement, with strong knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations, Codes and Standards.
- Proven team management skills, with ability to guide, mentor and develop teams.
- A track record of fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
- Strong ability to provide clear, accurate and timely advice on legislation, techniques and processes using sound professional judgement.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the capacity to build strong relationships across diverse audiences.
