Job Description
AMA (NSW) is the peak body representing the state's medical profession - advocating for doctors and their patients, and supporting our members through some of the most complex moments in their careers. Our small but high-impact Workplace Relations team is the first port of call when members need practical, reliable advice they can trust.
/n
We're looking for a Workplace Relations Advisor to join that team. This is a genuine advisory role from day one - you'll be giving real advice to real members on real problems, with the backing and mentorship of our Director of Workplace Relations, not sitting on the sidelines.
/n
Responsibilities
/n
Reporting to the Director of Workplace Relations, you'll provide timely, practical workplace relations and medico-legal advice to AMA (NSW) members, including on:
/n
/n
- Visiting Medical Officer Determinations and NSW Public Hospital Awards
/n
- The Fair Work Act, relevant awards, and employer obligations
/n
- Dispute resolution and grievance procedures
/n
- Performance management, redundancy and termination processes in private practice
/n
- Contracts, workplace investigations, and policy and procedure advice
/n/n
You'll also prepare correspondence and letters of advice, present at webinars and training sessions, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the advice AMA (NSW)
delivers to its members - with support from the team's paralegals and the wider Workplace Relations group around you.
/n
Qualifications
/n
/n
- Admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW
/n
- At least two years' post-admission experience as a solicitor, ideally with exposure to employment law or industrial relations
/n
- Confident written and verbal communicator, able to translate legal concepts for a non-legal audience
/n
- Accurate, organised, and comfortable managing competing priorities
/n
- Experience in a member-based, not-for-profit or health care setting is a bonus, not a requirement.
/n/n
What's on offer
/n
/n
- Full-time or part-time (four days, including Fridays) considered
/n
- Work from home up to two days a week, with adaptable start and finish times
/n
- Real mentoring and career development from an experienced Director of Workplace Relations
/n
- The chance to work on genuinely varied, meaningful advisory matters - not just process
/n
- A supportive, values-led team culture at a respected member organisation
/n
- If you're a solicitor looking to build real advisory experience in employment law and industrial relations - with the flexibility and support to do it well, we'd love to hear from you.
