We are on the look-out for a Power BI Developer to join us on a 4-month contract to support a key business project.
/n
About the Role
/n
As a Power BI Developer, you provide senior hands-on technical expertise in the design, development, optimisation, and governance of enterprise-grade Power BI solutions. The role is primarily focused on semantic modelling, reusable data models, and scalable reporting architecture, with report and dashboard development supporting the delivery of effective business outcomes.
You work closely with data engineers, project managers, technical specialists, and client stakeholders to deliver high-quality Power BI solutions that are performant, scalable, secure, and aligned to agreed business requirements.

Key Responsibilities of the Role
/n
/n
- Minimum 4+ years' experience designing, developing, and supporting Power BI solutions in a mature Power BI environment.
/n
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support scalable Power BI semantic models aligned to dimensional modelling and Power BI best practices.
/n
- Define model grain, fact and dimension structures, relationships, measures, hierarchies, and calculation patterns to support performance, usability, and long-term maintainability.
/n
- Establish and maintain reusable enterprise semantic layers, including certified datasets and thin report architecture, to support consistent reporting across multiple reports, teams, and client business areas.
/n
- Optimise semantic model performance through appropriate relationship design, cardinality reduction, storage mode decisions, aggregation strategies, and efficient DAX patterns.
/n
- Support large-scale Power BI report migration, rationalisation, consolidation, and modernisation activities, including assessment of existing datasets, reports, measures, and usage patterns.

- Build clean, accessible, user-focused reports and dashboards that present information clearly and support agreed business decisions, while ensuring visual design remains aligned to the underlying semantic model strategy.

- Define, document, and promote Power BI standards, modelling patterns, naming conventions, governance approaches, workspace structures, deployment processes, and reusable delivery assets.

- Collaborate with data engineers, architects, analysts,
project managers, and client stakeholders to ensure Power BI models are aligned with curated source data, business definitions, security requirements, and delivery objectives.

- Troubleshoot and resolve performance, data accuracy, refresh, security, DAX, model, and report-layer issues across Power BI solutions.

Required skills and qualifictaions
/n
/n
- Minimum 4+ years' experience designing, developing, and supporting Power BI solutions in a mature Power BI workplace.
/n
- Strong expertise in star schema design, dimensional modelling, fact and dimension design, model grain definition, and scalable semantic model architecture.
/n
- Strong understanding of DAX concepts.
/n
- Demonstrated experience with relationship design.
/n
- Practical experience with data refresh strategies, storage mode selection, and performance optimisation techniques for enterprise-scale Power BI solutions.
/n
- Experience designing reusable enterprise semantic layers, certified datasets, shared models, and thin report architectures that promote consistency and reuse across reports and teams.
/n
- Strong working knowledge of Power BI Service, including workspaces, apps, deployment pipelines, permissions, endorsement, certified content, data gateways, usage monitoring, and governance practices.
/n
- Strong oral and written communication skills for engaging with clients, facilitating requirements discussions, explaining modelling decisions, and producing clear technical documentation and handover materials.
/n
- Experience working in consulting, professional services, or large-scale delivery environments is highly regarded.
/n
- Continuous learning mindset with a commitment to staying current with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, semantic modelling, analytics governance, and reporting best practices.
