Mechanical Estimator – HVAC Projects

Westcool is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our growing Projects division.

This key role is responsible for preparing accurate, commercially sound tenders for commercial HVAC projects valued up to approximately $2million. You will take ownership of the estimating process—from reviewing drawings and specifications through to tender submission, settlement and handover to the delivery team.

The role can be based from either our North or South of the River office, depending on your preference.

The role

As our Mechanical Estimator, you will:

- Review tender documentation, mechanical drawings, specifications and client requirements.

- Complete detailed quantity take-offs and develop accurate labour, material, plant and subcontractor costs.

- Prepare clear and traceable cost plans, including overheads, risk allowances and recommended margins.

- Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.

- Identify scope gaps, technical risks, access constraints and compliance requirements.

- Develop tender methodologies, assumptions, exclusions and qualifications.

- Coordinate internal tender reviews and recommend commercially sound bid positions.

- Prepare complete,



professional and timely tender submissions.

- Maintain accurate tender records, approvals and supporting documentation.

- Provide comprehensive handover packs to Project Managers before mobilisation.

- Review estimate-to-actual project performance and improve estimating benchmarks and cost libraries.

- Build productive relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and the internal Projects team.

About you

You will be an experienced mechanical estimator with strong technical understanding and sound commercial judgement.

Ideally, you will bring:

- Demonstrated estimating experience within commercial HVAC or mechanical services projects.

- The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.

- Solid knowledge of HVAC equipment, ductwork, pipework, controls, labour and subcontractor packages.

- Experience preparing detailed estimates, cost plans and tender submissions.

- Confidence engaging with suppliers and subcontractors and assessing quotation coverage.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce complete, auditable estimates.

- The ability to identify commercial, technical, safety and delivery risks before a tender is submitted.

- Excellent written communication, planning and time-management skills.

- A collaborative approach and the confidence to challenge assumptions when information is incomplete.





- A current Australian driver’s licence.

A Diploma, Advanced Diploma or relevant qualification in mechanical services, engineering, construction, building or quantity surveying would be well regarded. Applicants with a relevant mechanical trade background and substantial HVAC estimating experience are also encouraged to apply.
