A founding role is available within a new startup funded by Deck2 Capital (deck2cap.com). Deck2 acquires profitable digital insurance companies, while our operating arm, Cove (joincove.ai), is responsible for running and growing them. You'll be hired by Cove for this role and work alongside them throughout, ensuring that the new venture exceeds expectations within this new stealth venture that's already profitable.
We're hiring a hands-on Financial Controller to build and run the finance function of a newly acquired, fast-scaling insurance business in Sydney.
This is a build role, not a maintain role. You'll stand up the statutory and management reporting, the controls, the close process and the audit readiness a regulated, fast-growing business needs - lean, with modern tooling and a lot of automation. Early on you'll be the IC, over time you'll build the team around you.
What we're looking for:
- CA/CPA qualified, with real controllership experience - statutory reporting, month-end, controls, audit.
- Comfortable in a regulated environment, insurance or financial-services exposure a strong plus.
- A builder's temperament - happy with ambiguity and setting up what doesn't exist yet.
This is an AI-native business, and that applies to finance too. You'll stand out if you bring:
- Real use of AI agents to plan and carry out multi-step work, not just answer questions (agentic AI).
- Comfort building tools that pull reliable answers from our own data (RAG).
- A knack for production-grade output from models through positive prompt and context engineering.
- A habit of building your own working tools, even without a formal coding background.
