Why consider this role?

The North Burnett Regional Council serves a population of over 10,000 permanent residents, dispersed across an area of 19,700 square kilometres, comprising six main townships and 25 villages and farming catchments.

Employing over 200 people and managing an asset base worth over $1 billion, Council’s key priority is its responsiveness to the needs of its diverse communities and providing a sustainable and enduring platform for Council and its communities to work together to chart a shared future.

Council is on a focused path to progressively improve its financial and service sustainability and is seeking candidates for the Audit and Risk Committee who are suitably experienced and able to work collaboratively with Council to guide its sustainability agenda and improve its capacity to service the needs of the North Burnett community.

About the Role

The North Burnett Regional Council is seeking to appoint three suitably qualified members to its Audit and Risk Committee. The terms of appointment of the current independent members conclude on 31 December 2026. The successful candidates will be appointed for a new term commencing on 1 January 2027. The three independent members will join two Councillors to comprise the Audit and Risk Committee.





The Audit and Risk Committee is an advisory committee that reports to council and provides advice on finance, corporate governance, internal controls, risk management, compliance and oversight of internal and external audit.

The Committee meets at least four times per year with Committee Members receiving an annual fee for advisory services. The duration of appointment for each member will be for up to four years.

About you

Candidates must demonstrate comprehensive experience in Audit Committee roles in at least similar sized organisations with comparable challenges and complexities. Experience in the local government governance and financial management operating environment will be highly regarded.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate considerable experience and understanding of finance, legal, corporate information systems controls, cyber security and risk management.

Candidates are required to possess a sound knowledge of internal and external audit processes, hold tertiary qualifications and membership of a relevant skilled body, such as CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.
