About us
Permacast is a Western Australian precast concrete manufacturer based in Cardup, supplying civil and structural precast to projects across the state. We build to tight tolerances and tighter programmes, and quality is what keeps our products — and our reputation — standing up.
About the role
We are looking for a Quality Control Inspector / Graduate Engineer to make sure every element leaving our yard matches the approved shop drawings and meets Australian Standards. You will work across the full production cycle — pre-pour, post-pour, curing, finishing and final dispatch — and be the person production and project teams come to when a specification needs clarifying.
This is an initial 3-month contract with the possibility of extension, based on-site at our Cardup facility. It is a hands-on role split between the office and the production yard. If you like catching problems before they become someone else’s rework, you will do well here.
What you will be doing
● Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and project plans, and verifying dimensions, reinforcement placement, cast-in items, concrete mixes and finishes against approved shop drawings
● Conducting inspections at every production stage, from pre-pour through to final dispatch clearance
● Overseeing and documenting concrete testing — slump, compression and reinforcement integrity checks
● Assessing incoming materials from suppliers and reporting defects or non-conformances that could affect quality or programme
● Identifying and documenting non-conformities, working with production to close them out with minimal disruption, and escalating major NCRs to Project Managers
● Verifying corrective and preventive actions and supporting root cause analysis
● Monitoring production against approved QC procedures and giving technical feedback to production teams
● Maintaining inspection, test and NCR records to a standard that supports full traceability,
and supporting internal and external audits
● Contributing to work instructions, SOPs and ITPs, and helping train production staff in QC standards and drawing interpretation
● Participating in pre-starts and toolbox meetings, and reporting hazards, defective equipment and safety concerns
What you will bring
Essential
● Tertiary qualification in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline), or extensive industry experience with demonstrated expertise in precast concrete quality control
● Current WA driver’s licence
● Current White Card (Construction Induction Training)
● Ability to read and interpret engineering and shop drawings, specifications and technical documents
● Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (AS 3600, AS 1379, AS 5100) and QA and HSE procedures
● Sound understanding of precast manufacturing, material properties, reinforcement placement and curing
● Hands-on experience in material testing, defect identification and compliance auditing
● Competence with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
● Current Australian work rights
The way you work
High attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the communication skills to hold a firm position with production teams while keeping the relationship intact. Organised enough to juggle multiple projects and deadlines, and comfortable moving between the office and the yard.
What we offer
● An initial 3-month contract with genuine potential to extend for the right person
● Wide-ranging work with a well-established WA manufacturer, across a range of civil and structural projects
● Genuine involvement in continuous improvement, not just paperwork
