The Role
Play a key role in shaping the environmental success of Tas Water's capital works program. You'll lead environmental and statutory compliance across a diverse portfolio of projects, working closely with delivery partners and internal stakeholders to drive sustainable outcomes, manage compliance risks, and achieve exceptional environmental performance.
Leading a high-performing Environmental Management Team, you'll foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement while making a lasting impact on Tasmania's communities and environment.
- Drive sustainability initiatives and environmental performance across project delivery.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects that benefit Tasmania's communities and environment.
- Coordinate and facilitate monitoring and oversight of Principal Contractor partner activities to ensure compliance with regulation, legislation and Tas Water specifications.
- Manage environmental, legislative, and development approvals, including council development applications and regulatory approvals, to support successful project delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with councils, regulators, contractors, community groups, and other key stakeholders to navigate approvals and community interests.
- Understand and support Tas Water's strategic role in serving the community,
demonstrating a commitment to delivering outcomes that align with our purpose and working collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
What we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced environmental professional with a strong understanding of environmental and statutory compliance, approvals, and project delivery within infrastructure, utilities, construction, or a similar industry. You'll bring experience partnering with and overseeing principal contractors, monitoring performance to ensure compliance and successful project outcomes.
With excellent stakeholder management skills, you'll be confident working with project teams, regulators, councils, contractors, and community stakeholders to navigate complex environmental and development matters while delivering sustainable outcomes.
- Possession of an appropriate Environmental, Planning, or Science Degree qualification.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge, skills and experience in managing and delivering sustainability, environmental and statutory compliance activities for a range of asset types and project complexities, preferably within the water industry or within a similarly scaled infrastructure utility, Government-owned corporation, or similar environment.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar senior role managing projects.
- An understanding of, or passion for, delivering essential infrastructure that supports communities and protects the environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated experience, or strong familiarity, with monitoring and overseeing principal contractor performance, building effective partnerships, and ensuring contractors meet environmental, statutory,
and project delivery requirements.

The Details
This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $135,072 - $150,080 (inclusive of superannuation).
