Influence the future of fisheries policy in one of the world's most unique environments

The Northern Territory Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking leader to join the Fisheries Division as Manager Fisheries Policy. Based in Darwin, this is a rare opportunity to shape the policy frameworks that underpin the sustainable management of some of Australia's most diverse and valuable aquatic resources.

In this influential role, you will lead the development and delivery of fisheries policy, translating complex science, stakeholder perspectives and government priorities into practical, future-focused policy and legislative frameworks. Working at the intersection of policy, science and operations, you will provide high-level advice on emerging issues and reforms, and play a central role in guiding decision-making that supports ecological sustainability, economic growth and community outcomes.

We are seeking a confident and capable leader with strong policy expertise and a collaborative approach. You will bring experience in developing and implementing policy or regulatory frameworks, along with the ability to navigate complexity, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality advice.

Your strengths in communication, critical thinking and stakeholder engagement will enable you to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across government, industry and the community.

Why the Northern Territory?

This is more than a policy role—it's an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the sustainable management of natural resources while enjoying the unique lifestyle the Northern Territory has to offer. Based in Darwin, you will live in a vibrant, welcoming city with easy access to outstanding natural landscapes and a strong sense of community.

Professionally, you will be part of a values-driven public sector where your work directly informs government decisions and delivers real-world outcomes. You will lead a dedicated team, drive reform initiatives and contribute to policy that balances environmental stewardship with economic and social priorities.

Why join the NT Public Sector?

Alongside this exceptional role, you'll benefit from a highly attractive employment package designed to support both your career and lifestyle, including:

- Six weeks annual leave, enabling extended travel, rest and work-life balance
- Relocation support (where applicable) to help you settle into Darwin
- Generous superannuation and leave entitlements, including personal and long service leave
- A strong focus on flexibility, wellbeing and inclusive workplaces
- The chance to work in a values-driven public sector where your work delivers meaningful outcomes for communities and the setting

We are seeking a strategic, curious and values-driven leader—someone who thrives on challenge, embraces innovation, and is motivated to make a difference.
