Mad Monkey Backpackers have a vacancy for 1 x Carpenter at our Cairns properties.

Our hostel is a vibrant hub for travellers from all over the world, and we pride ourselves on keeping our space secure, sturdy, and looking great. From custom bunk repairs and timber deck maintenance to creative DIY upgrades and general hostel upkeep, your craft will directly impact the guest experience.

Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Timber Work: Build, repair, and maintain wooden structures, including bunk beds, outdoor decking, fencing, furniture, and common area fixtures.
General Maintenance: Perform routine facility repairs (doors, locks, drywall, light hardware fixes).
Preventative Checks: Inspect property grounds regularly to identify safety hazards or needed repairs.
Project Work: Assist with fun cosmetic and structural upgrades (e.g., building outdoor seating, tiki bars, storage solutions).
Tool & Material Management: Maintain tools, manage inventory,



and source cost-effective materials for repair projects.

What We’re Looking For
Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in a similar carpentry role.
Qualification: CPC30220 or above, or international equivalent. If you have an international qualification you may be required to undertake additional training to convert it to the Australian standard.
Problem Solver: Ability to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and find effective solutions.
Tool Savvy: Proficient and safe with standard hand and power tools.
Social & Reliable: Comfortable working around international guests and team members in a fast-paced workplace.
Flexibility: Physical stamina to lift materials, work outdoors, and handle various physical tasks.
