About You
As a Research Assistant, you will undertake research activities in line with the University's research strategy, working with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop. You will have completed a PhD with experience in a field relevant to fire dynamics, fire safety, gas dispersion or thermal transport. Strong numerical and computational modelling skills, with demonstrated experience developing, validating and applying models to support prototype design and experimental testing are key for the position.
As an effective communicator and collaborative team member, you will be comfortable engaging with researchers, project leaders and industry partners, and presenting complex technical information through publications, reports, conferences and research forums. Experience in computational fluid dynamics, producing high-quality research outputs and contributing to industry or government funding opportunities will position you strongly for success in this role.
To be successful in this position, you will have as a minimum:
- A PhD qualification and experience relevant to numerical modelling of fire dynamics, fire safety, gas dispersion, and thermal transport, with demonstrated ability to develop, validate, and apply computational models to inform prototype design and experimental testing.
- Evidence of research output including publications,
conference contributions and/or technical reports relating to fire dynamics and computational fluid dynamics.
- Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
- Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills.
- Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
