- Conducting a range of in-situ field tests and laboratory tests on construction materials and soils — concrete, aggregates and soils — for student projects, demonstration and industry exposure, in line with relevant Australian Standards (AS 1012 / AS 1289 / AS 1163 series)
- Interpreting work instructions, applying appropriate test procedures and selecting equipment
- Developing testing procedures in alignment with relevant Australian Standards, and demonstrating standard material and equipment handling in accordance with those procedures
- Collecting and analysing data, and carrying out computations, including compliance and tolerance calculations
- Preparing test-setup sketches, technical drawings, mix-design documentation, calculation sheets, procedure diagrams, charts, tabulations and plans
- Inspecting test specimens, samples and incoming materials against specifications and standards,
reviewing test procedures for compliance, and organising and supervising the upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory facility
- Operating, calibrating and maintaining all laboratory equipment (incl. UTM and PID-controlled drying oven), and procuring lab-grade equipment to the required specifications
- Performing procurement — estimating material required for daily operation, preparing batch designs, and budgeting for and procuring laboratory materials and equipment — and managing lab records and WHS compliance
- Supporting students during practical laboratory sessions, guiding them in correct test methods, secure material and equipment handling, and interpretation of results
- Engaging students with current industry practices and standards to build their real-world, industry-ready testing skills
