School of Veterinary Science – UQ VETS Full‑time, fixed term position through to December 2027. Base salary will be in the range $140,766 - $148,862 + 17% super (HEW Level 9).

Job Overview

Join a collaborative, high-performing clinical and academic environment at the UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital. In this role you will contribute to specialist equine referral services in Equine Surgery and/or Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, while supporting the teaching and development of the next generation of veterinary professionals. The position offers advanced equine surgery and/or sports medicine and rehabilitation services within a dynamic referral hospital setting.

Responsibilities

- Deliver specialist expertise in Equine Surgery and/or Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, including diagnostic investigations, treatment planning, and case management.
- Perform and oversee elective and emergency surgical procedures as appropriate to training and expertise.
- Contribute to clinical teaching, supervision and mentorship of undergraduate students and residents.
- Support the strategic development and growth of clinical services within the Equine Specialist Hospital.

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent qualification) registrable in Queensland.
- Specialist registration eligibility in Queensland in Equine Surgery or Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, or completion of an approved residency programme with eligibility for board examinations.
- Demonstrated experience in equine referral practice, including the diagnosis and management of complex cases.
- Experience in elective and emergency equine surgery and/or sports medicine and rehabilitation commensurate with training and qualifications.




- Expertise in advanced diagnostic techniques including lameness evaluation, musculoskeletal ultrasonography and advanced imaging interpretation.
- A strong commitment to teaching, mentorship and the development of students and residents.
- Well‑developed interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, referring veterinarians, industry stakeholders and the broader community.
