The Office of the DVC Research (DVCR) is recruiting for a Director, Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG). This is a distinctive opportunity to lead a public-purpose institute that connects UTS research, policy capability and external partnerships with the practical needs of government and public-sector reform.

About the Opportunity

As Director, you will lead IPPG as a university-integrated platform for public policy, evaluation, capability-building and research translation. The role requires a leader who can work credibly across government, universities and applied policy environments, bringing together academic expertise and practitioner insight in ways that are trusted, useful and decision-ready.

The successful candidate will need to combine intellectual credibility, public policy judgement, institutional maturity and delivery discipline. They will strengthen IPPG's contribution to UTS through purposeful connections with faculties, researchers and senior government partners, while ensuring the Institute operates sustainably, accountably and with clear public value.

About You

We are seeking a leader who can move comfortably between ideas and implementation, research and practice, universities and government. You may have built your career across public policy, applied research, evaluation, government advisory, public administration, research translation or a related setting. What matters is that you bring credibility with senior stakeholders, a solid understanding of how policy and public institutions work, and the ability to translate expertise into practical, evidence-informed contributions to public decision-making.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• A PhD, or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge,



senior experience and professional standing appropriate to the leadership of a university-based public policy institute.

• Demonstrated credibility in public policy, public-sector reform, evaluation, applied research, research translation or a related field.

• A strong understanding of government priorities, decision-making, accountability and stewardship, together with the judgement to work effectively with senior public-sector partners.

• The ability to broker, translate and position academic expertise so that it is relevant, credible and useful to government and public-sector partners.

• Experience working across complex institutions and building productive partnerships with academic leaders, expert communities, professional teams and external stakeholders.

• The capacity to lead a professional and practitioner workforce with clarity, accountability, cultural maturity and care.

• Strong strategic, analytical and financial capability, including the ability to use evidence and data to inform decisions and operate within explicit performance, governance and sustainability expectations.

Remuneration

A competitive remuneration package, including an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation, will be on offer to the successful candidate.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 3 years.
