Job Profile – CAD Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical & Gas Systems)
Position Summary
The CAD Engineer is responsible for producing, maintaining, and controlling high-quality engineering drawings and technical documentation for mechanical, electrical, and gas-fired equipment. The role supports product development, manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and customer documentation by ensuring all drawings are accurate, complete, and comply with relevant engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain 2D and 3D CAD/DXF models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
- Produce detailed mechanical, electrical wiring, and gas piping drawings for industrial equipment.
- Generate fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering change records (ECR/ECO).
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable Australian and international standards, including AS/NZS, IEC, ISO, and EN requirements where applicable.
- Support current product development and continuous improvement projects.
- Review and update legacy drawings to current engineering standards.
- Prepare technical files, equipment manuals, and engineering documentation for regulatory approvals and certifications.
- Assist with design validation, prototype development, and production implementation.
- Maintain engineering document control and revision management within the company's document management system.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and troubleshoot design-related issues.
Skills and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Design, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Experience creating:
- Mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Gas piping and process flow drawings.
- General arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Exploded assembly drawings.
- Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Experience with BOM management and engineering document control.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, machining, fabrication, and assembly.
- Understanding of electrical control systems and industrial gas systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
