About the Role
West Coast Engineering & Welding is seeking an experienced Supervisor to lead and coordinate our workshop and site-based operations across a variety of SMP construction, maintenance and shutdown projects.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing trades personnel, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong client relationships and promoting a positive team culture.
The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge,
excellent organisational skills and a commitment to safety, quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate workshop and site-based fabrication, welding, pipefitting and SMP activities
- Lead and mentor tradespeople, apprentices and subcontractors
- Plan, schedule and allocate labour, equipment and materials to meet project requirements
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, procedures and standards
- Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and daily work planning activities
- Monitor productivity, workmanship and project progress
- Review drawings, specifications, work packs and construction documentation
- Ensure compliance with quality requirements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and client standards
- Manage site safety, hazard reporting, SWMS, JSA compliance and permit requirements
- Liaise with clients, project managers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Assist with project planning, procurement and resource forecasting
- Monitor and maintain workshop equipment, vehicles, tools and plant
- Support shutdown, maintenance and construction activities across various client sites
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost control and operational efficiency
- Complete required reporting, timesheets, quality records and project documentation
What We’re Looking For
- Trade qualification in Boilermaking, Pipefitting, Mechanical Fitting or related discipline
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leading hand role within SMP, mining, oil & gas, energy or heavy industrial environments
- Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, piping installation and maintenance activities
- Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple work fronts
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs; and technical specifications
- Sound knowledge of Australian Standards, quality requirements and industry best practices
- Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental compliance
- Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Construction White Card
- High Risk Work Licences, Confined Space, Working at Heights and First Aid qualifications highly regarded
