Mental Health Clinician

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is a recent, dedicated public youth mental health service and is the first of its kind in Australia. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team.

About Us

PYMHWS is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges. We are leading a bold and values‑driven transformation in youth mental health care across Melbourne’s north and west. Our model is shaped by the voices of young people and their communities, and underpinned by a commitment to safety, equity, and continuous learning.

Department

The Pathways Care Team (Pathways) is a new program being established as part of the expansion of our Continuing Care Teams (CCT). Pathways is designed for young people who present with tertiary level mental health needs for whom specialist early intervention programmes are not yet indicated or whose needs cannot be determined at intake.

Our CCT model delivers ongoing, community‑based care for young people experiencing severe and/or complex mental ill health, including mood, personality, substance use, eating and neurodevelopmental disorders. Pathways will strengthen this model by offering case management with a solid emphasis on care coordination, collaborative care, and engagement to support assessment and brief intervention.

Role

Working within a supportive and specialist multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Clinician will provide evidence‑based interventions, brief interventions,



psychological therapy and clinical case management for young people experiencing severe and complex mental health issues.

The Clinician is responsible for devising, implementing and evaluating an appropriate treatment plan for each young person and their family/carers. This involves provision of clinical assessments, psychological treatments, home‑based assertive outreach to facilitate engagement, and case management tasks such as liaison with other agencies and advocacy on behalf of the young person.

The Clinician will function autonomously, carry a caseload of clients, participate in clinical review meetings and practice according to the philosophy and protocols of the service. The position includes regular supervision, professional development and training opportunities.

The Clinician may be required to provide interventions to young people from a range of PYMHWS acute and community services and spend time working within programmes such as the Youth Access Team and/or the bed‑based services. The service operates over a number of sites and staff may be required to work from these and be based at one or more sites, including Parkville, Wyndham, Sunshine or other sites within the catchment.

Qualifications and Experience

- Eligible disciplines: RPN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker Grade 3 / Psychologist Grade 2
- Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in clinical practice in the mental health field and specifically with young people experiencing mental health disorders
- Experience in clinical assessment, risk management, and delivering specialist interventions including for personality disorders
