As part of the Secondary Family Support program funded by the Department of Child Safety, Seniors, and Disability Services for Families, the Family Support Worker provides a range of interventions to families and children experiencing vulnerability. These interventions aim to identify, report, and reduce harm or risk of harm, prevent crises or problems from arising or escalating and stabilise or maintain the family’s wellbeing.

The Family Support Worker is accountable for:

- To strengthen the capability and capacity of families with children and young people who find themselves in vulnerable circumstances.
- Case management model used to build capability and capacity in families to respond to crisis.
- Strengthen the caring and parenting capability and capacity of caregivers.
- Strengthen the capability and capacity of the families that you are working with to re-engage with their community.
- Provide education to build parents or carers capability and capacity to build stronger relationships between child and carers.
- Ensure services are provided in accordance with relevant funding guidelines; and
- Participate in local networking of government and non-government agencies, such as Local Level Alliance meetings, relevant inter-agency meetings.

Qualifications and Experience





- Diploma in social, community or human services; OR demonstrated relevant experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study of an equivalent level of expertise.
- Case management experience and case note writing.
- Current C class Driver’s license (QLD).

Core Competencies

- Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate intake, support, information, referral and case management for clients;
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict that is solution focused and client centered;
- Demonstrated ability to ensure data entry and program reporting is completed as per funding agreements and Catholic Care’s requirements;
- Demonstrated ability to work within legal limitations around the right to confidentiality and privacy;
- Sound knowledge of issues affecting families and children who may be experiencing domestic and family violence, child abuse and self-harm.
- Sound capacity and capability to engage clients from diverse backgrounds and establish effective working relationships.
- Sound level of ability to review client needs to ensure appropriate and effective service delivery and referral
- Demonstrate strong cultural capability for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; and
- Sound level of digital literacy to support accurate documentation within CatholicCare’s chosen data management systems.
