Education Assistants play a key role in the delivery of a range of face to face education and public programs to visitors to the Memorial, including school students, teachers, community, and other special interest groups. In addition, Education Assistants contribute to program development, deliver a range of front-of-house services, and assist with project work and administrative functions. As an Education Assistant you will have robust people skills and customer service, flexibility when working in a busy environment, and empathy for the purpose and mission of the Memorial.

Notes:

- Employment is of a casual nature, there are no set hours. Rostered shifts are based on the changing demands of visitor bookings.
- Minimum availability required is two shifts per week. Both weekday and weekend availability is desirable.
- Education Assistants are required to demonstrate a level of physical ability and mobility to safely move through the galleries, walking and standing for extended periods on hard surfaces, and to perform manual handling tasks as required.
- As part of the Memorial’s commitment to provide a world-class corporate image, restrictions may apply to visible tattoos, piercings or hairstyles.
- Experience working with children is essential

The key duties of the position include:

- Under general direction, deliver education and public programs to a range of visitors to the Memorial, including out of hours, liaising with Memorial staff and volunteers, school teachers, and tour operators on operational matters pertaining to the visit.
- Under guidance, assist in the development of Australian Curriculum aligned educational programs.




- Assist in administrative tasks and project work related to the provision of the Memorial’s education and public programs and education resources.

Eligibility

- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance. The check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
