The Role
As a Technology Controls Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring Submarines Division complies with Australian and international export control requirements while supporting the secure management and delivery of controlled technology within the submarine environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to work at the intersection of policy, compliance, technology and national security.
You will provide expert advice, identify and manage risks, solve complex problems, and contribute to information management activities that support Defence outcomes. The role may involve working on complex or sensitive matters that have strategic, operational or policy impacts across Defence.
Please note: The successful candidate must obtain clearance through the AE717-1 process to ensure eligibility to access sensitive export-controlled technology.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional with an interest in export controls, technology governance and compliance. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will be able to work both independently and collaboratively and will demonstrate experience or knowledge in the following areas:
- International and domestic export control frameworks and regulations.
- Analysis and interpretation of legislation, contracts, intellectual property requirements, or export control obligations.
- Information and records management practices, including compliance with the Archives Act 1983 and associated legislation, policies and procedures.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with diverse customers and stakeholders.
- Working in a agile environment and adapting to changing priorities while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake work on and be provided with technical information pertaining to defense articles of United States of America (US) origin. In accordance with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), any applicant who holds, or has previously held, citizenship or permanent residency of a country other than Australia will be required to declare and indicate the country or countries of citizenship or permanent residency. Restrictions on access to defence articles and associated technical data subject to the ITAR by dual national employees may apply.
