Job Description

Auscon Metals The Technician and Trades Worker /Plant & Equipment Maintenance Technician plays critical operational role within the recycling facility at Auscon Metals Pty Ltd. The position combines mechanical and electrical maintenance support, heavy mobile plant servicing, industrial equipment upkeep.

The role directly contributes to equipment reliability, production continuity, workplace safety and the commercial performance of the non-ferrous department. Benefits Competitive pay Stable, full-time position On-the-job training and development Opportunities to gain tickets and advance your career Friendly, supportive team culture PPE and uniforms provided Secure employment with a growing company Variety of hands-on work in a fast-paced environment Task & responsibilities Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Support Provides hands on assistance to qualified mechanical tradespersons in the preventative and corrective maintenance of mechanically operated heavy mobile plant, including skip trucks, forklifts, excavators, material handlers and associated industrial machinery.

- Mechanical assistance during fault diagnosis, repair and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Testing electrical components including wiring systems, sensors, switches, relays and control circuits.
- Replacing electrical components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures.
- Supporting maintenance of battery charging systems, lighting circuits, warning devices, electrical and mechanical accessories and safety systems fitted to heavy equipment.
- Participating in scheduled maintenance programs to maximise equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Maintaining detailed maintenance records and reporting defects requiring corrective action.
- Following lock out/tag out procedures and all electrical safety requirements during maintenance activities.





Plant and Equipment Maintenance Support the servicing, inspection and maintenance of:

- Skip trucks
- Forklifts
- Excavators
- Material handlers
- Hydraulic equipment
- Conveyors and ancillary recycling plant troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, conducting routine inspections to identify wear or potential failures and supporting emergency breakdown repairs to minimise operational disruption.

Steel Shredder Maintenance Assist with maintenance and servicing of the facility’s industrial steel shredder and associated processing equipment:

- Inspecting electrical and mechanical components for wear and operational integrity.
- Supporting replacement of motors, sensors, control components and electrical connections.
- Assisting in maintaining conveyors, feed systems, magnets, separation equipment and related plant.
- Helping ensure protected, efficient shredder operation in line with manufacturer recommendations.

Non-Ferrous Metal Identification & Processing Involves accurate identification, grading and processing of non-ferrous metals, including:

- Copper
- Brass
- Aluminium
- Stainless steel
- Lead
- Zinc
- Nickel alloys
- Electric motors
- Insulated cable
- Electronic scrap
- High value specialty alloys Responsibilities include assessing material quality and contamination, ensuring correct materials runs through the plant and sorting to maximise recovery value and monitoring stock levels of processed materials.

Safety & Compliance Strict adherence to Workplace Health and Safety legislation, company policies and environmental regulations:

- Identifying hazards and implementing risk controls.
- Ensuring safe operation of plant and equipment.
- Maintaining high housekeeping standards across workshop and processing areas.
- Correct use of PPE.
- Participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives.
