Job Description
The Productivity team is looking for an Application Engineer to help build, maintain and improve digital solutions that support critical Ministry services. You will work with technologies including Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Azure Dev Ops, Git Hub Enterprise and Microsoft 365.
This is a practical, delivery-focused role. You will contribute across solution build, release and deployment activities, configuration, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational support. You will also work closely with technical specialists, vendors and business stakeholders to ensure our applications remain secure, stable, well-supported and fit for purpose.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, improving ways of working, and helping teams get better value from the Microsoft ecosystem.
This role requires a hybrid on-site presence at our Wellington National Office.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring
- Hands-on experience building, configuring or supporting solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power Automate, Power Apps and Copilot Studio.
- A practical understanding of Microsoft 365 and how business applications integrate with the wider Microsoft ecosystem.
- Experience, or a strong working knowledge, of application lifecycle management practices, including source control, release management, deployment pipelines or environment management.
- Familiarity with tools such as Azure Dev Ops and Git Hub Enterprise.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues, identify root causes and support practical resolutions.
- The ability to build effective relationships with technical teams,
vendors and business stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach and a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement across Ministry services.
- The right to work in New Zealand at the time of application.
Experience with any of the following would be useful, but is not essential:
- Supporting production business applications.
- Working in a government, regulated or enterprise environment.
- Creating or maintaining technical documentation.
- Working with security, privacy, change control or release processes.
- Helping business teams adopt low-code, automation or AI-enabled tools safely.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $105,226 and $144,034, based on skills and experience.
