About Amber
Amber is an entirely different way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price and the technology to shift energy usage to times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. Amber aims to help Australia reach 100% renewable energy through affordable, adaptable energy solutions.
Amber is a leader in home battery automation and is growing rapidly (over 80k customers). We have expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in Europe. Amber is backed by investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners, and E.ON Next. We are scaling rapidly and you would join a team of over 200 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture.
Our products reshape home energy: Amber for Batteries reduces bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2026, we will advance with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology and scale to utilities beyond Australia.
About the role
We are seeking to improve the environment by shifting energy usage towards renewables. The position offers an opportunity to apply product thinking and leadership to enhance our product as we enable the renewable energy transition. The technology optimises batteries and other devices in customers’ homes, timing usage to consume power when renewables are abundant and prices are favorable, and export power to the grid at critical times.
The product is a template for dynamic pricing and home energy automation globally. The role aims to scale the offering by licensing core technology to utilities around the world so their customers gain access to flexible, intelligent energy.
We are looking for a Director of Product to join Amber’s executive team and lead product, reporting to the CEO. The role shapes Amber’s core product to move from a single market to many, and from a single brand to a platform powering utilities globally.
The Amber product team develops and supports:
- Home automation integrations (solar, batteries, and EVs,
with V2G coming soon) that respond to pricing and renewable availability
- Mobile and Web apps for customers to monitor and manage energy usage
- A pricing and billing engine for real-time energy pricing
- The marketing site and tools to drive customer growth
- Our licensed technology platform powering utility partners across Europe and beyond
The core product team is accountable for delivering the solution everywhere. Amber’s product is the most mature instance of it, and a proving ground for what great looks like. The mandate is to build a core product that can power many utilities.
Two primary responsibilities are envisioned: shaping Amber’s product vision and executing on it with the right alignment, systems, and people to keep a growing product function coherent and high-quality as we scale. We seek a leader who aligns strategy with practical execution and builds capability in others.
We envision multiple pathways to success in this role. The successful candidate will care deeply about building great products and delivering real-world outcomes, and will set a clear direction so good decisions happen even without their presence in every room.
We expect the role to grow capabilities, not bottleneck decisions; a leader who builds capability in others and fosters a strong product culture.
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a senior product leader managing PMs at an executive level or as a manager-of-managers in a product function
- 5+ years of relevant commercial product experience across consumer technology, marketplace, or platform products at a similar growth stage (Series B/C and beyond)
- Proven ability to set product strategy and communicate it clearly across an organization beyond the product team
- Track record of raising product management quality through hiring, coaching,
or systems you’ve implemented
- Experience building products that operate across multiple markets, brands, or customer segments is a strong plus
Responsibilities
- Own the direction, goals, and quality of Amber’s core product — pricing, devices, and core customer experiences — and manage the PMs, structure and organization
- Shape the core product to serve a growing number of retail and utility partners globally, not just Amber’s own brand
- Define and maintain Amber’s product vision and strategy
- Align product, design, and engineering priorities and ways of working
- Mature product practices; roadmapping, discovery, goal-setting to match scale and ambition
- Foster a product culture of clarity, accountability, and craft
If this kind of work gets you excited, we would love to hear from you. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds and do not discriminate on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
How to Apply
Please include your resume and a cover letter.
Our process will generally be as follows:
- A screening interview with our talent team
- A take-home challenge that should take no longer than 3 hours
- Two interviews discussing the take-home challenge — one with our CMO and Head of Design, one with our CTO and Director of Engineering
- An interview with two of our Product Managers
- A final chat with our Executive Leadership team
We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team.
Applications will be accepted only from candidates based in Australia. We are not looking to relocate people for this role but may sponsor existing employees with a current Australian visa.
