Where You'll Be Working

Youth Response Teams based at Macquarie and Mona Vale Hospitals and North Ryde and Brookvale Safe Havens.

Key Responsibilities





- Provide specialist mental health consultation to children and young people who present to the Youth Response Team, participate in the YRT roster, and undertake clinical duties as delegated by the Clinical Lead or Service Manager.
- Serve as an expert in child and youth mental health nursing, providing leadership, advice, and recommendations on nursing care for children and young people, and consult on protected and appropriate use of nursing practices within the wider hospital context.
- Primarily rostered to cover evening shifts to ensure after‑hours provision of specialist CYMHS assessment, formulation and care planning, facilitating efficient patient flow for consumers who present to YRT.
- Incorporate some daytime shifts into the roster for professional development and team planning activities.
- Ensure family‑focused care, involving collaborative care planning with children/young people and their wider family or support network, and coordinate liaison with parents, carers, public or private health practitioners, school counsellors, NGOs and other relevant services.

Qualifications

1. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)



and a minimum of 5 years’ full‑time equivalent post‑registration experience and at least 3 years’ full‑time equivalent experience in mental health and/or child and youth mental health, with postgraduate qualifications related to the clinical specialty.
2. Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead evidence‑based nursing practice in assessment, care planning and care delivery to children and young people with complex mental health issues, and to provide expert clinical consultancy, networking and communication across stakeholders.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with children and young people aged 12‑18 years and their parents/carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
5. Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
6. Demonstrated commitment to strength‑based practice and recovery‑focused care as well as consumer and carer participation and consultation.

Additional Information

This is a NSW Health Category A position which requires immunisation and screening for certain diseases. Applicants must complete the OASV Undertaking/Declaration Form and the TB Assessment Tool during the recruitment process and upload any other vaccination evidence they may have.
