NT Health are looking for a Senior Medical Officer to support and expand Rural Generalist training capacity in Central Australia by developing, delivering, and coordinating Rural Generalist-focused education and training opportunities for senior medical students and PGY1–2 junior doctors.

This role supports Rural Generalist workforce development in Central Australia by delivering education for senior medical students and PGY1–2 doctors. It may be combined with an RMO clinical role at Alice Springs Hospital. Suitable for PGY3+ or RG trainees, offering potential AST/ARST recognition and experience in education and leadership.

Key duties and responsibilities:

- Develop, coordinate and deliver a structured Rural Generalist (RG) skills development program for senior medical students and PGY1–2 doctors, including procedural skills training and simulation-based education.
- Define and implement an RG curriculum framework that aligns learning outcomes across senior medical student and junior doctor training pathways.
- Coordinate simulation activities and facilitate scenario-based learning, skills workshops and other experiential educational programs.
- Develop and maintain high-quality educational resources in collaboration with RACGP, ACRRM, Flinders NT and the NT Rural Generalist Coordination Unit.
- Participate in Medical Education Unit (MEU) activities, including program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives and educational meetings.
- Ensure educational programs are delivered in accordance with NT Health standards and promote safe, culturally responsive learning environments.
- Comply with service quality standards, work health and safety requirements, and relevant policies and procedures to support safe and effective workplaces and services.

You will be:

- Eligible for general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Have a minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience, or equivalent.




- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate small-group teaching and skills-based education.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Medical Education Unit, prevocational doctors, medical students, clinicians, and external stakeholders.
- An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures and to work in a cross-cultural environment, with an understanding of the Central Australian Aboriginal health.
- Demonstrated interest in Rural Generalist and /or medical education.
- Experience in simulation, clinical teaching, or curriculum development.

This is a part time vacancy available for 0.8 (28 hrs and 30 mins) per week.

Alice Springs Hospital is the major referral centre for Central Australia, serving a catchment area of over one million square kilometres. The hospital provides care to a geographically dispersed population, with a significant proportion of patients from remote Aboriginal communities.
