We are seeking a Commissioning Manager, or a Senior Commissioning Engineer who is ready to take the next step into a leadership position to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of commissioning activities across major high-voltage renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects. This role will be responsible for managing commissioning teams, overseeing energisation and start-up activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements, and supporting the successful transition of projects from construction through to operations.

The Commissioning Manager will work closely with project delivery teams, clients, contractors, High Voltage Operating Authorities (HVOAs), and Operations & Maintenance teams to ensure commissioning activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development, implementation, and management of commissioning and start-up strategies, plans, procedures, and budgets.
- Establish system boundaries, commissioning scopes, and execution methodologies for HV infrastructure projects.
- Manage commissioning activities through all project phases, including pre-commissioning, testing, energisation, performance testing, and handover.
- Develop and review commissioning procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs), energisation plans, and functional testing documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning risk assessments, HAZCOM reviews, and mitigation strategies to ensure safe project delivery.




- Manage and mentor a team of commissioning personnel and High Voltage Operating Authorities across multiple projects.
- Oversee commissioning readiness activities, ensuring construction completion, QA/QC requirements, and documentation are achieved prior to energisation.
- Coordinate specialist subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and third-party commissioning providers.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety legislation, Australian Standards, project-specific requirements, and company procedures.
- Monitor commissioning progress, identify risks and delays, and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
- Act as the key interface between construction, commissioning, operations, clients, and contractors throughout project delivery.
- Support project handover activities and ensure a seamless transition from construction and commissioning into operations and maintenance.
- Lead investigations into electrical incidents, prepare reports, and implement lessons learned across the portfolio.
- Prepare and present commissioning progress reports, risk updates, and project performance metrics to senior management.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, coaching, hazard management,



and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience

- Extensive experience leading commissioning activities across HV electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, transmission, substation, or industrial projects.
- Robust understanding of commissioning processes, testing methodologies, energisation planning, and operational readiness requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing commissioning teams and coordinating multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
- Experience with high-voltage apparatus, substations, MV/HV cable systems, transmission infrastructure, and balance of plant assets.
- Strong understanding of EPC project delivery environments and contractor management.
- Proven ability to manage commissioning risk, resolve technical issues, and deliver projects safely and efficiently.
- Experience developing commissioning documentation, test procedures, inspection plans, and final handover reports.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong knowledge of Australian electrical safety legislation, industry standards, and safe systems of work.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and commissioning management/reporting systems.
- Experience within renewable energy projects (wind, solar or BESS) highly regarded.

Qualifications

- Unrestricted Electrical Licence or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
