The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of services including GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.

Qualifications and requirements

- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent in accordance with Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act.
- An understanding of the Children and Community Services Act 2004 and its application when working with children and families.
- Knowledge of the developmental needs of children and young people, with a commitment to supporting their wellbeing and safety.
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, values,



and contemporary issues impacting Aboriginal people, with the ability to build respectful and trusting relationships with children, families, communities, and stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare transparent, accurate, and meaningful reports.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to contribute positively as part of a supportive team.
- The ability to build positive partnerships and work confidently with government and non-government agencies, community groups, and service providers to achieve the best outcomes for families.
- Well‑developed problem‑solving, analytical, and case management skills, with a strengths‑based approach to supporting children and families.

Possession of or substantial progress toward a qualification in Social Work, Youth Work or another relevant qualification or substantial lived experience relevant to the position and willingness to complete further education.
