The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd (IUIH) is a community‑controlled service delivering primary health care, mental health, and early childhood support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across South‑East Queensland.
About the Role
To perform this role it is essential that the incumbent is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person; this is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1991.
The Early Learning Officer will work with the Birthing in Our Community (BIOC) team, families, children, and IUIH staff to expand access to culturally relevant early childhood education and community resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support to parents and families about early childhood education.
- Coordinate and deliver early childhood activities to families and children, including playgroups, individual support, and alternative play‑based learning options.
- Provide access to information and professional development resources for stakeholders to enhance cultural capability.
- Participate in IUIH early childhood events such as Deadly Kindies Open Days and Deadly Choices community events.
- Establish relationships with mainstream early childhood education stakeholders and support the BIOC North team and clinic staff.
Qualifications
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence (QLD).
- Current Criminal History Check.
- Cert III or above in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Current Working with Children’s Check (QLD Blue Card).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (desirable).
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities (desirable).
