- 11 – 12 month contract, part time role (15.2 hours/week)
- Support daily newsgathering operations for the ABC.
- Base salary $62K-$69K (paid on a pro rata basis)

The Role

The ABC is looking for a News Operations Assistant to support the daily coordination of newsgathering activities across the newsroom.

Working closely with the Chief of Staff and journalists, you'll play an important role in helping deliver breaking news coverage and content across multiple platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, a passion for news and current affairs, and an interest in developing a career in journalism and content production.

The Job

- Coordinate communications and logistics support for daily news operations and coverage.
- Assist with the management of media assets, including recording, logging and organising content within newsroom systems.
- Use a range of newsroom software and production tools, including iNews, Aurora Browse, Netia, Concur Travel and Autocue.
- Liaise with journalists, producers and other ABC teams to support efficient content gathering and production activities.
- Participate in newsroom planning, production and editorial meetings.
- Support the delivery of breaking news and evolving stories while working to tight deadlines.




- Be available to work the contracted 15.2 hours per week. This is usually two 7.6-hour shifts from 6:00am on a Wednesday and Thursday. However, this is a rostered position so the days and times are subject to change depending on the needs of the newsroom.

About You

You’ll be a highly organised team player with a passion for news and storytelling, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

You’ll have

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
- An understanding of breaking news environments and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong digital and computer skills, with an interest in content production and working with video, audio, image and text-based systems.
