Assistant Director at Forrest Out of School Hours Care

An amazing opportunity exists for a strong leader to lead our dynamic team in one of the best Out of School Hours Care in Canberra, you would be leading and developing a team of passionate educators within a Playwork-based setting, underpinned by our philosophy of Risk & Play in a child-led program. Forrest Out Of School Hours Care is a Not-for Profit service proudly operated by our community of Parents & Citizens meeting the needs of our diverse community. We pride ourselves on our connection with the local community and our commitment to embracing diversity, both within our pedagogical practice and our team. We are a large service (157 places) offering Before, After and School Holiday programs out of a government school where we are generally open 49 weeks per year. POSITION – Assistant Director. Hours flexible and negotiable. 25-38 hours per week.
Days negotiable but could include Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 9:30 pm and 1:30 pm-6:30 pm,
with the opportunity for directing hours in the absence of the Director and during school holidays.
POSITION STATEMENT
To work as part of the Director team guiding and assisting in the provision of a high quality out of school care program based on sound and current pedagogies.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
To work as part of Director team that co-ordinates, directs and supervises the Educators to facilitate experiences and support children's engagement in a program that, at all times of the year, involves risk taking, experimentation and exploration of both indoor and outdoor environments.
Ensure relevant risk management strategies are used in daily operations.
Comply with the requirements of the National Quality Framework and the school age care framework – My Time Our Place 2.0
Work as part of the programming/planning team that assists educators implement and evaluate a high quality and diverse educational program with the collaboration of children.
Comply with all service policy and procedures.
Contribute to development of, and implement, the quality improvement plan and philosophy of the service.
Actively participate in both internal and external Career development throughout the year as identified during the annual employee appraisal.
EXTENT OF AUTHORITY
Is responsible for the general supervision of all employees within the service.
Is responsible for the overall day to day management and administration of FOOSHC when acting in the role of Director.
To work as the Responsible Person as requested.
SELECTION CRITERIA-
Qualifications and other requirements – minimum
- Diploma Childrens Services or studying towards an ACECQA approved qualification
- HLTAID004 First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis
- Current Working With Vulnerable People registration
- 2 years or more experience in Before and After School Care or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative and being able to work independently and as part of a team
- Sound Understanding of National Quality Framework including My Time Our Place V2.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and provide leadership to team members
