Centacare North Queensland is seeking a compassionate and community‑focused Family Support Worker to join our RAIFSS and Normanton Youth Support Service programs, based in Normanton. In this role you’ll provide early intervention and practical family support to children, young people and families experiencing vulnerability. Working across RAIFSS and NYSS, you’ll support families to strengthen safety, wellbeing and connection, while assisting young people who may be at risk of disengagement from family, school or community.

Description

The Family Support Worker provides early intervention and family support services to families and young people experiencing vulnerability, using a case management service delivery model. This includes undertaking assessments, providing educational resources and delivering practical,



strengths‑based support.

The role works to identify and address barriers impacting family functioning, child safety and wellbeing, and connection to community supports. You will support families and individuals to build skills, resilience and capacity, particularly where families and young people are at risk of disengagement or harm.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide culturally appropriate and flexible early intervention family support strategies, techniques, skill development, assistance and information to CALD individuals and families, including those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Assist individuals, families and young people to put into practice parenting, household and life skills learned through RAIFSS and NYSS programmes.
- Deliver early intervention‑focused services that strengthen the care and protection of children living at home and increase safety and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of community education activities, group programmes and supports in line with programme and Centacare requirements.
- Maintain accurate case files, data entry and documentation in accordance with organisational guidelines.




- Participate in and support culturally appropriate community events and activities.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with community, government and non‑government stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, supervision, professional development, team meetings and line management processes.
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission, values and procedures of Centacare North Queensland.

Skills and Experiences

- Degree‑level qualifications in human services, community development or a related field, with at least 12 months’ relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
- Previous experience in a similar role using a strengths‑based framework in early intervention family support.
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and societies and the issues impacting them in contemporary society, and/or experience working with CALD communities.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting safety and risk assessments with vulnerable families and individuals.
- Current open driver’s licence.
- Current Working with Children Blue Card and Disability Worker Screening (Yellow Card), or the ability to obtain.
